Faith And Hope Against Transverse Myelitis

Faith And Hope Against Transverse Myelitis from Jose Bayona on Vimeo.

From one day to another, Ricardo Rivera’s life changed. The 26-year-old film student woke up the next day after Thanksgiving 2010 to find out that he could not walk anymore. Few days later, doctors diagnosed him with Transverse Myelitis, an inflammation of the substance inside the spinal cord.

Rivera, a deeply religious man, is full of hope despite his continuous health problems. He wants to walk again one day for him and for his mother, the only person supporting him at this time. His faith keeps him working really hard to achieve his goal, and as Lazarus in the Bible, he said, he is sure he will one day walk again.

great video! Tell your son there are many of us like him. I was hit with TM 12/08, walking now but it took quite a while. I do feel that after even more than 2 years I continue to improve, never give up. Always be curious about tomorrow! In an instant his life was changed and in an instant it can be changed again for the good. Hang in there Ricky!!!!

Hi Nancy, Tell Ricky that I am praying for him. My son is 29 and has TM. It is tough but things do get better. I hope you both have a good week.

I’m so scared I was recently diagnosed with transverse myelitis and the world is upside down. Does it get any better? I keep praying and praying. Is Ricky getting better, has he been able to walk again? I need some hope out there….

    • Nanc says:

Ernesto, Don’t ever give up hope. There is “always” hope, when you have “faith”. Ricky is getting better – so we take one minute at a time, trusting God that someday he will walk again. However, until that day – we still have JOY in our HEARTS because of LIFE. Even to breath is a blessing…and we have that today (even if not walking) and everything we took for granted, we are now thankful for. God bless. Xo
